At least five classrooms at a school in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur were allegedly damaged by minor suspects.

Red paint was splashed on the walls, ceiling, and electrical outlets of a classroom at the Tukuran SPED Center in Barangay San Carlos. The items inside the classroom were also scattered around.

Four other classrooms were in similar condition.

Teachers saw the situation morning on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Tukuran SPED Center Principal, Dr. Ma. Teresa Suarin, said the suspects, out of school youth, may have gone mad when they did not find anything valuable inside the classrooms.

“Tungod kay wala sila’y nakuha, nag-wild sa loob, mao na tong hitabo. Daghan na sila actually, mga five, mga bata. Mga 10 to 15 ang edad,” Suarin said.

According to reports, the suspects have ransacked the school in several occasions. They would reportedly just keep an eye on the barangay tanod who guards the school all by himself.

The minors reportedly have links to another group that allegedly breaks into schools in the town.

Because of the incident, a meeting was held with officials of the Department of Education (DepEd), the barangay local government unit, and other authorities to strengthen school security and ensure proper intervention for the minors involved.
