A councilor in Hagonoy, Davao del Sur escaped an attempt to end his life after the assailant’s gun failed to fire.

The incident happened on Sunday, June 15, 2025 outside the barangay hall in Poblacion.

Based on investigation, the councilor was standing outside the barangay hall when two unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle arrived.

One of the suspects got off the motorcycle and approached the councilor, concealing a firearm inside a small bag.

However, when the suspect attempted to shoot, the firearm reportedly did not discharge.

Realizing what was happening, the councilor left the area quickly. The gunman, now in panic, ran back to his companion and both drove off immediately.

Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive.
