A police officer is facing administrative and criminal charges after he allegedly fired his firearm while under the influence of alcohol during a baptism celebration in Davao City.
Based on investigation, the officer, reportedly intoxicated, was attending the baptism party when he got into an argument with another guest.
Although the dispute was settled initially, the officer suddenly drew his firearm and fired a shot to the ground, causing alarm and panic among guests.
The officer was arrested and his firearm was confiscated, along with a magazine containing 10 bullets.
The suspect, a police staff sergeant assigned to the Calinan Police Station, has not issued a statement, as of this writing.
“We filed administrative and criminal charges against him. So, a drug test and forensic examinations against and pinacheck ko yung FPO kung meron siyang firearms dun, pinaparevoke ko lahat. We cannot tolerate such a thing,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director, Col. Hansel Marantan, said.
