At least 20 houses in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental were flooded as heavy rains poured on December 1, 2025.
According to the Kabankalan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the 20 houses are situated in Barangay Oringao.
“Grabe ang ulan sa portion na iyan. Ang daming tubig pero ang liit ng daanan nito. Kaagad namang nag-subside ang tubig pero may dala itong mga bato,” Elbert Javellana, head of Kabankalan CDRRMO, said.
The Local Government Unit of Kabankalan City conducted an inspection immediately on the stream that overflowed which caused the flooding.
According to the Negros Occidental Provincial DRRMO, there were no tropical cyclones monitored in the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, December 1. However, localized thunderstorms dumped heavy rains in Kabankalan City.
“Ang nangyari sa Oringao, dala lang iyon ng mga localized thunderstorms natin na may mga volume ng pag-ulan,” said Melvin Fierro, weatherman of Negros Occidental PDRRMO.
However, two tropical cyclones are expected in December 2025.
“Ang next natin na bagyo si Vilma [Wilma], bagyong Vilma [Wilma] malapit na sa Letter Z, mahigit 20 na itong bagyo. Naka-heightened alert ang ating emergency operations center,” Bryll Larry Sañor, spokesperson of Negros Occidental PDRRMO, said.
