Several offices of the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental have expressed concern after their budget for 2026 were reportedly slashed.

Heads of departments concerned raised the alarm.

Of the more than P4 billion proposed budget from the Office of Governor Juliette Uy, only over P3 billion was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

This means that more than P2 billion was removed from the proposed budget, affecting several provincial departments.

One of the most affected offices is the Provincial Health Office (PHO), which now has only P2.6 million, a sharp drop from more than P160 million in 2025.

Among the items affected is the aid to hospital operations, which supports job order doctors and nurses helping augment hospital services.

“Usa naay kitay aid to hospital operations to augment sa atong mga doctors and nurses nga kakulangon para makahatag kita ug quality service sa walo ka mga balay tambalanan,” PHO Head, Dr. Maria Bebina Casiño,” said.

Another office affected is the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), which only received only P12 million from its proposed P85 million budget for 2026.

PAGRO raised concerns over the implementation of agricultural programs, especially with the anticipated onset of El Niño, as announced by state weather bureau PAGASA.

“Kining 12 million para lang gyud ni siya sa incoming nato nga El Niño nga assistance the rest ana wala na gyud,” PAGRO Head, Michelle Lace, said.

Other offices reportedly affected by the budget cuts include the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PLENRO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Provincial Veterinary Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and Misamis Oriental Cares.

Board Member Rommel Maslog, chairman of the Committee on Finance, explained that the budget was recalibrated based on the province’s actual revenue.

“Wala hilabti ang budget sa hospital naay kaugalingon nga pa sweldo para sa hospital unya ug gusto pa gyud mo ug dugang budget para ibutang sa hospital ngano dili man gyud mo makig meeting sa amo ang executive,” Maslog said.

Maslog said the Finance committee remains open to meeting with Uy and is willing to pass a supplemental budget if necessary.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to Uy for a statement, as of this writing.
