Three houses were razed to the ground after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Labangal, General Santos City evening on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The fire broke out past 7 p.m. and was put out within 30 minutes.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), a portion of one of the houses that served as a small eatery was also affected.
No one was reported hurt in the incident and those affected were given immediate assistance by the local government.
Some residents reportedly blamed an unattended cooking pot as the cause of the fire.
“Naglung-ag daw ang tag-iyang lalaki pag lung ag gibiyaan niya ang nilung-ag. Naglakaw dito sa Phase 1,” affected resident, Mayjuoy Pareñas, said.
“Gamay pa daw ang kalayo, ‘dong tabangan ta basya ni balas para mawala’, naglakaw lang daw nga walay paki-alam,” she added.
However, the homeowner denied the allegation.
“Og linung-ag didto pud ko magluto sa akung garden, kay naa man koy payag didto,” another resident affected, Rolando Diaz, said.
“Nahibulong man ko nga naninggit ang mga tao nga naay sunog ingun ko bahala mo diya mangasunog mo. wala koy labot ninyo, unya ning tan aw ko diri, akong gilili aso man, amua man gyud ni,” he added.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, though some residents suspect faulty electrical wiring may have triggered the blaze.
BFP has yet to determine the cost of damage, as of this writing.
