Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday, April 23, 2026, said her planned trip to several countries has changed after the Office of the President issued a travel authority for her only at the last minute.
In a statement addressed to the Office of the President, Duterte said the last-minute issuance of travel authority created uncertainty in her departure.
“Thank you for the last-minute issuance of the travel authority. I regret to inform you that the plans have since changed due to uncertainty as to whether I will be permitted to depart,” the statement said.
Duterte said she would submit a new request for travel authority.
The Vice President also urged the Office of the President to ensure that necessary documents are processed and released on time, allowing sufficient time for preparations instead of receiving them only a few hours before departure.
“Additionally, ensuring the confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive documents would greatly contribute to maintaining effective security arrangements,” Duterte said.
Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto confirmed earlier that the Office of the President had granted Duterte authority to travel to five countries from April 23 to May 15.
These countries included The Netherlands – where her father, former President Rodrigo Dutrete, is currently detained – as well as the Republic of Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The announcement of the issuance of the travel authority from Malacañang came as the House Committee on Justice convened yet again to hear the impeachment case against the Vice President’s.
