A member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was arrested with at least 12 grams of suspected shabu worth around P81,600 in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Sasa, Davao City.

The operation was carried out by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Davao (PDEA-11), National Bureau of Investigation-Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-SEMRO), and PCG personnel on April 23, 2026.

Authorities identified the suspect as a 33-year-old member of the Human Resource Management Unit of Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao.

PDEA-11 said the suspect was confirmed to have been allegedly involved in illegal drug trade through intelligence reports and following surveillance operations.

PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, has ordered the immediate placement of the suspect under preventive suspension to ensure an impartial and speedy probe.

“Let this serve as a clear warning to all PCG officers and personnel that the Command will not tolerate involvement in illegal activities or any act that undermines the integrity of the service. Those who violate the law will face the consequences of their actions," Gavan said.

PCG spokesperson, Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, also said the agency is cooperating fully with PDEA and other law enforcement agencies in the investigation and filing of charges.

“These apprehensions demonstrate that the PCG does not shield its personnel from accountability. We will continue to support lawful operations against erring members and uphold the honor and credibility of the Coast Guard,” Cayabyab said.

Cayabyab added that if the suspect is proven guilty, he will face criminal charges and administrative sanctions, including dismissal from the service with forfeiture of benefits.
