Heavy afternoon rains triggered flooding and minor landslides in Baguio City, while parts of Pangasinan saw relief from extreme heat as scattered downpours continued, weather officials said.
In Baguio, strong rains caused water to surge along roads in Barangay Irisan, with mud entering several homes and damaging property on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Authorities also reported soil erosion and rockfalls, including an incident in Barangay Dominican Mirador where a large rock punched a hole through a house wall.
“Itong easterlies kasi mainit sa umaga hanggang tanghali, hapon, ito po ‘yung time na nagde-develop ‘yung mga cloudiness natin at nagkaroon tayo ng mga thunderstorm,” Engr. Larry Esperanza, chief meteorologist of PAGASA-Baguio, said.
Residents and local authorities worked together to clear mud and debris, while the city government extended assistance to affected families.
Meanwhile in Dagupan City, recent rains have eased extreme heat conditions slightly after the heat index reached 46 degrees Celsius on April 27.
“Pag na-hit yung kalupaan, diyan tayo magkakaroon ng condensation at conflicted clouds. So pagdating ng hapon o gabi, diyan na babagsak yung ulan,” Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., chief meteorologist of PAGASA-Dagupan, said.
Despite the summer season, intermittent rains have been recorded in the area in recent days.
“Umulan po kagabi, malakas. Pero ngayon siguro mamaya uulan na naman mamaya,” Karyll Concepcion, a resident, said.
