More than 40 families were displaced after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The fire broke out at past 3 p.m. and spread quickly to neighboring houses.

“Nahurot tanan wala pati kaldero hurot lagi tanan nibalik ko ganina buntag dinhi mao ni akong nakita nga naa sa akong sikad kay naa man koy sikad nga ginabyahe nako,” a resident affected, Felix Amarga, said.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was raised to third alarm.

Up to 48 houses were razed to the ground while the damage was estimated at more than P700,000.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

“Pipila ka mga angle ang atong ginatutukan muna karon under investigation pa gyud muna among gina-intense pa gyud nga isubay karon,” Carmen Fire Station Investigator, FO3 Kevin Vallejos, said.

Residents affected are taking shelter at the evacuation center and were given immediate assistance.

“Ato ng gi-secure ang ilahang evacuation center nga insigida naa silay mapuy-an, matulugan, ug makan-an. So, gi-secure nato ang ilang matulugan, i-secure pud nato ang ilang mapuy-an sa temporaryo ug ikatulo gi-secure nato ang ilang pagkaon,” Barangay Chairman Raineir Joaquin Uy said.
