Authorities have identified a bao-bao tricycle driver who allegedly assaulted a commuter and the driver of a modernized jeepney in Cagayan de Oro City.
The incident was captured on video.
In the video, the suspect is seen hitting a man while the vehicle was in transit. The driver was also forced to step on the brakes after the suspect kicked him.
According to the jeep dispatcher, the jeep was traveling to the Cogon Market from Xavier Heights when the suspect boarded in Upper Carmen.
The suspect reportedly followed a passenger who boarded his tricycle first but transferred later to the jeep, which made him angry.
“Nasuko ang [tricycle] driver ngano kuno ginaog nipara man sa bus. Nasuko lagi kay singkwenta man pangayo ang amo dese sais ra baya minimum ra.:: mao to nasuko ang bao-bao gilakag ang bus,” the jeepney dispatcher, Roel Parangos, said.
The chief of the Police Station 4 has identified the suspect who was arrested previously for alleged robbery.
“Identified niya kini previously as alias Boy Bolo or Boy Sundang kini nga suspetsado. Naa nani previous nga kaso nga iyang nahawiran ug iyang nadakpan 2 years ago for series of robbery kung diin ang suspetsado naka serve na sab sa maong salaod,” COCPO Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.
The suspect may face charges for serious physical injury.
Authorities are looking into whether robbery was also a motive in the attack.
Drivers and operators are urging authorities to address the problem on colorum bao-bao units.
“Walaon gyud na sila kay makaapektar gyud na sila sa amo sa pamasahero kanang mahapon,” Parangos added.
In a statement, COCPO director, Col. Dexter Paje, said the driver’s action was unlawful, violates human rights, and endangers the safety of the commuting public.
"This City of Golden Friendship values peace and respect. Those who cannot abide by the law and cannot treat others properly have no place here. We will pursue violators until they face full accountability," Paje said.
