A 16-year-old boy was rescued from a spring where he almost drowned at a resort in Mabinay, Negros Oriental.

Witnesses saw a lifeguard and several men rush to save the boy who had jumped into the spring believing the water was shallow.

Mabinay rescue team leader Jay-R Olbiana said the boy, a resident of Dumaguete City, misjudged the depth of the spring.

The boy was already weak when he was pulled out of the water and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Olbiana reminded visitors to follow safety advisories, especially in deep areas of the spring where swimming is prohibited.
