A buy-bust operation in the town of La Castellana in Negros Occidental ended with a policeman dead after he was stabbed by the subject of the operation.

The incident happened evening on May 11, 2026 at the house of the suspect, Edward Acupan, where police operatives transacted with the buy-bust target.

According to Maj. Romulo Gepilango, the chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, Acupan went to the kitchen fast after learning that he was dealing with policemen.

He returned with a knife in hand and allegedly attacked the cops.

“After nag-transaction sila ng ating poseur buyer, then pag-declare na ating tropa na PNP sila, tumakas ito, (pumunta) sa kusina. Sa napakabilis na panahon, kumuha siya ng armas,” said Maj. Romulo Gepilango, chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station.

Based on investigation, Acupan stabbed MSgt. Davy Carampatana first, hitting him in the chest. The cop died from the wound.

Another cop, Cpl. Gerson Guache, sustained a wound in the hand.

To the policemen’s surprise, Acupan’s 68-year-old mother also allegedly picked up a weapon and stabbed Capt. Michael Muñez in the back.

Muñez is the deputy chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station.

“The same na bahay, nakisali rin kasi (ang nanay) sa pagpambuno. Nagulat sila sa nanay ng suspek at sinaksak sa likod (ang deputy chief),” Gepilango said.

Acupan is facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. He sustained a wound in the arm from the squabble.

He and his mother are facing a separate charge for homicide and frustrated homicide.

“This is a local performance of duties ng ating pulisya. It so happened na may namatay. Ang lahat ng persona will be identified by our witnesses,” said Capt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

Cops recovered the knife using in the stabbing and seized suspected shabu worth P47,000.
