Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 53-year-old breeder of fighting cocks in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The victim was shot by still unidentified assailants afternoon on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Sitio Balani, Barangay Ambonao, according to investigators.

Authorities said the victim, a resident of the area, was about to open the gate of a cockfighting farm while riding his motorcycle when the suspects, who were also on a motorcycle, approached and opened fire.

The gunmen fled after the shooting.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His wife, Rochelle Bandong, said the incident left the family shaken and struggling to cope.

“Syempre, kinakabahan kasi di ko alam kung anong gagawin ko noong sinabi sa bahay. May anak pa akong maliit. Hindi ko alam kung anong uunahin ko. Tapos pagdating namin doon, wala nang buhay,” she said.

Police recovered five spent shells from a caliber .45 firearm at the crime scene.

Investigators are now conducting CCTV backtracking and pursuing other leads to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.

Bandong appealed for justice for her husband.

“Hiling na lang po namin, hustisya po. Yung mahuli yung may gawa nito kasi masakit po sa amin kasi may anak din po siya na marami na naiwan,” she said.

The Calasiao Police Station said the investigation is ongoing, as of press time.
