Three traffic enforcers in Mandaue City, Cebu were sacked from their posts for asking money to spare traffic violators from penalty.

Hyll Retuya, head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), said they do not tolerate corruption in the group.

“Zero tolerance gyud ta ana corruption. Mao na this month alone – to teach a lesson sa ato personnel. Diri sa TEAM ug sa LGU Mandaue, wala man na nato gitudlo go apil ingon ana nga mga activity, tinarong man ni ato panerbisyo,” Retuya said.

Several incidents involving the traffic enforcers were caught on video.

One of the three enforcers was caught on camera asking for money from visitors from Bicol. Their conversation went:

Motorist: “Biglang nag-change yung waze…"

Enforcer: “Ma’am, hindi naman sa ano… ganito nalang, ‘yung maghahanap sa akin nyang citation mamaya ‘yung nagbabantay ng camera… pang snacks lang… okay lang? Para okay tayo…."

Motorist: "Pang-snacks, sir? Magkano, sir?"

Enforcer: "Dalawa sila, ikaw na lang bahala..."

Another incident saw another traffic enforcer trying to convince a driver to give an amount lower that what the driver would have paid for penalty.

The enforcer said he would not have a choice but issue a citation ticket if the driver would not give in.

“Hinangyoay lang ta… dako-dako ra ba ni. Tres mil ni imo violation… Unya, naa pa ka seminar ani usa ka adlaw ani...” the enforcer said.

“Hangyo lang mi ba… kay ang makapaldo niani, ang opisina. Og gusto maka-save ka, aw di tika issue-han… P1K… pila? Okay ra ninyo? Og dili gani, issue-han nalang… wa ta choice,” the enforcer added.

Retuya said the three traffic enforcers admitted to the allegations when they were made to answer during investigation.

“All three of them admitted man sab sa ila kasal-anan, no. Mao na karon, wala na gyud na sila gyud," he said.
