A 43-year-old businessman was arrested for allegedly killing his uncle and injuring a security guard during a shooting incident on Bontao Street in Barangay 8, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
The Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) said the suspect is a resident of Cebu City.
Based on investigation, the suspect and his uncle, a 74-year-old businessman from Barangay 8, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, figured in a heated argument over a land conflict inside a hardware store owned by the victim, which eventually escalated into the shooting incident on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head and several parts of his body while a 25-year-old security guard also sustained a gunshot wound in his right elbow.
Both victims were rushed to medical facilities for treatment but the older victim passed away later.
After the incident, police officers responded and arrested the suspect at the lobby of the establishment.
The suspect’s caliber .45 pistol allegedly used in the shooting was also recovered.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Malaybalay City Police Station and may face murder and frustrated murder charges.
“The bravery and decisiveness shown by our responding personnel during this incident exemplify the true essence of public service. Because of their immediate action, the suspect was promptly apprehended, preventing any further threat to the community,” PRO-10 Director, Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano, said.
