The municipal government of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur has expressed its support for Senator Ronald dela Rosa.
It’s Sangguniang Bayan passed a resolution expressing solidary and support for the senator amid ongoing controversies surrounding his role as PNP chief during the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.
The resolution highlights Dela Rosa’s ties to the town where he was born, raised, and continues to reside.
Town officials urged the national government to uphold the Constitution and due process.
Sta. Cruz Mayor Jose Nelson Sala and Dela Rosa are known to be close friends.
“No Filipino can simply be taken, no Filipino can simply surrendered, no Filipino can simply deprived of liberty without lawful judicial process under Philippine laws. That is not politics, that is constitutional law,” Councilor Julius Francie Rizada, said.
Dela Rosa is the subject of an arrest warrant for “alleged criminal responsibility as an indirect co-perpetrator” in the crimes against humanity of murder from July 3, 2016, until the end of April 2018, where at least 32 persons died.
Authorities attempted to serve the warrant against him on May 11, leading to a chase inside the Senate building. He was placed under protective custody of the upper chamber before he left the Senate premises on May 14.
His location is now unknown.
