Authorities in Talisay City, Cebu will inspect randomly eateries and other places that sell food near schools to ensure that what they sell are safe to eat, especially to children.

The move is in line with the city’s preparation for the reopening of classes on June 8, 2026.

The City Health Office clarified that the initiative is meant to uphold standards and that no complaint in line with food safety has reached the office, so far.

“Matuyok nila ang kaning mga tindahan nga nag-surround sa atong mga eskwelahan para ma-check pud nila, ilabi na sa mga baligya nga pagkaon og kaning sa mga tubig mainom,” said Vice Mayor Choy Aznar.

Dr. Rey Cesar Bautista of the city’s health office said personnel of the city’s sanitation office will conduct the random check.

“Pasuruyon namo among mga sanitary inspectors to check… we see food being displayed out in the open ba,” he said.

He said the office needs the help of residents in monitoring and anyone with concerns can reach out to the office, and even to the mayor.

“We also want the public to help us monitor this kay ang public man gud ang naa everywhere so you can always call, you can message sa kang Mayor Samsam, kanang iyang page so that city health can act,” Bautista said.

DENGUE

Meanwhile, still in line with sanitation, the city is also strengthening its anti-dengue campaign.

The health office will respond accordingly to request of schools for misting.

From January to May 31, 2026, the city health office logged 107 reported cases -- 81 of which were considered suspected cases while 26 were confirmed cases.

No one died from the disease and the city is bent on making sure this record stays.
