Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu will return to a five-day work week starting in the second week of June.
According to Mayor Cindi King Chan, the city was supposed to end the four-day work week at the start of June but the city treasurer’s office was busy distributing aid to senior citizens and persons with disability.
It was in March 2026 when local governments and agencies of government implemented a four-day work week upon orders of the Office of the President.
Malacañang made the order as a way for government offices to conserve energy at the height of the fuel crisis spurred by the conflict in the Middle East.
Lapu-Lapu City’s neighbor, Mandaue City, reverted to a five-day work week in the middle of May.
Another neighboring LGU, Cebu City, returned to a five-day work week also in May.
Lapu-Lapu was the host city of the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit that took place in Mactan Island in Cebu in May 2026.
