Lanao del Sur First District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong has filed cyberlibel and libel charges against 18 former bodyguards of former Congressman Zaldy Co after he was named among individuals who allegedly received suitcases containing money from alleged flood control budget.

The complaints were filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office in Marawi City on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Adiong said his name was dragged repeatedly into accusations that he received a suitcase containing money from the flood control budget.

Adiong denied the allegations, prompting him to file the case to put an end to the issue.

“Hindi lang ito personal battle kasi kung ako lang walang problema sa aking ito pero it drags now the institutional integrity and respect of the people to the senate,” Adiong said.

The lawmaker said the accusations were a targeted attack meant to undermine his credibility.

Adiong believes that supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte are behind the smear campaign due to their political interest in the upcoming elections.

“Target yung pangalan na nandoon identified na perceived detractor ng Vice president tapos ang mga sumusulong nito ay identified to be an allied of the Vice president at the time that the impeachment trial is supposed to begin,” Adiong added.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the Duterte camp for a statement, as of this writing.

Adiong also challenged the 18 former bodyguards and their lawyer, Atty. Levi Baligod.

“If they’re claiming that they are holding on to the truth appearing before the Blue ribbon whoever sits there as a chairman it should not matter to them they should be there,” Adiong said.
