A 40-year-old man in Negros Occidental died while his 54-year-old passenger was injured when a car rammed into the tricycle he was driving.
The incident happened in Barangay Tuyom in Cauayan town.
CCTV footage showed that the tricycle and the four-wheel vehicle were traveling in the same direction when the car suddenly rammed the tricycle from behind.
Because of the impact, the tricycle fell on its side and rammed into the railing by the road.
The tricycle driver, Rod, died while his passenger, Demetrio, sustained injuries in the head and back.
“Pareho silang nasa the same direction. Bigla na lang binangga ng Vios ang likod na bahagi ng tricycle,” said Msg. Erold Cebua, investigator of the Cauayan Municipal Police Station.
Police said it is possible that the car driver did not see the tricycle.
He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.
“Sa ngayon, ang driver natin, naka-kustodiya sa police station. So far, wala pang final na agreement ang both parties,” Cebua said, as of June 12, 2026.
Police advised motorists:
“I-regular natin ang pagpapatakbo. I-observe natin ang defensive driving,” said Capt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.
