A 52-year-old man died after he was thrown off the boat he was riding when it was battered by strong winds off Davao City.
Residents of Barangay Bucana experienced strong winds accompanied by rains on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Reports said strong winds hit the boat of the man who had gone fishing in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya.
Fellow fishermen and rescuers pulled the man out of the water and tried to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, the victim did not respond and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
According to the victim’s wife, the weather was fine when her husband went out to sea. However, when the weather suddenly worsened, he tried to head home, leaving behind companions who were also rescuing other boats that had capsized.
Strong winds still caught up with him.
“Nisutoy siya og uli paspas iyang padagan. Sus naapsan man gyud siya sa katung unus grabe kayo, nalabay siya. Pagkalabay niya kalangoy pa siya, gipanghubo ang mga jacket ug katung sa iyang ulo, langoy siya,” the victim’s wife, Thelma Ravanes, said.
Ravanes added that the victim suffered a heart attack while swimming. This was also confirmed by the doctor’s medical findings.
“Siguro, sir, naa man gud na siya diabetes ug highblood unya wala siya nag-inom og tambal…. mao na to, mura’g na-cardiac siya… Kung nalumos siya, dili siya makita dayun, maunlod man to tapos pag-revive sa iyaha, walay tubig migawas sa iyaha,” Ravanes added.
