A dump truck carrying workers to a solar plant site plunged into a ravine in Labrador, Pangasinan on evening on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, killing six people and injuring 20 others, police said.
The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. on June 16, 2026, along a mountainous stretch of road in Sitio Kadampat, Barangay Bolo, according to the Labrador Police Station.
Police said the truck was navigating a steep downhill curve on its way to a solar plant project when it reportedly suffered brake failure. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the truck fell into a ravine.
The driver was among those killed in the accident. Authorities brought those injured to different hospitals for treatment.
Before plunging into the ravine, the dump truck also sideswiped a pickup truck. Police said the occupants of the pickup were unharmed.
Investigation into the crash continues, as of this writing.
“Meron po tayong aksidente na involve na isang truck at pick up. Sa ngayon, under investigation po kami. Sa initial namin meron na tayong anim na namatay and other injured,” Police Captain John Ramos, officer-in-charge of the Labrador Police Station, said.
“Hindi pa po kami tapos sa imbestigasyon namin. Ngayong araw ipagpapatuloy namin para makumpleto natin at para makita natin kung ano talaga nangyari,” he added.
Labrador Mayor Noel Uson said the municipal government had already taken action following the tragedy. It has ordered the temporary closure of the work site where the victims were employed.
“Nakakalungkot man na balita, pero ang LGU ay gumawa na ng aksyon. Nagpalabas po tayo ng EO para pansamantala ipasara muna o wala munang papasok na empleyado doon sa site,” Uson said.
He also assured assistance for those affected.
“Doon naman sa mga biktima ina-assure po natin na mabigyan sila ng kaukulang tulong,” he said.
The families of the victims and other individuals involved in the accident declined to comment. Efforts are also underway to obtain a statement from the company operating the work site.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing, as of press time.
