Swarms of flies have pestered residents of areas in the towns of Pamplona and Sibulan in Negros Oriental.
Residents of Barangay Magsusunog in Pamplona said the flies are not only affecting their food but have bothered them in their sleep, as the insects reportedly cling to mosquito nets.
A barangay health worker said some children in their area have become ill due to the presence of flies.
Aside from Barangay Magsusunog, a sitio in Barangay Enrique Villanueva in the neighboring town of Sibulan has also been affected.
Residents blamed the flies coming from a poultry area in Barangay Magsusunog.
According to the barangay chairman, complaints have been raised against the poultry farm in November 2025 due to alleged improper management of chicken manure, which is believed to be the source of foul odor and the infestation of flies.
This was also confirmed by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Pamplona.
According to a security guard of the poultry farm, the management did not allow anyone from the farm to issue any statement.
However, the security guard said the area has already been inspected by authorities.
The chairman of the ocular inspection team also confirmed that they, along with the Pamplona LGU, have inspected the poultry farm.
The local government has provided chemicals for control and sanitation purposes.
