After almost a month of hiding, the suspect in the killing of an 89-year-old woman in La Paz, Iloilo was arrested.
The suspect, alias Jerry, 34, was arrested during an entrapment operation carried out by the police’s intelligence unit in Oton, Iloilo on June 29, 2026.
During the operation, authorities seized from the suspect two caliber 38 revolvers, bullets, and a grenade.
The suspect was not aware that he was selling one of the guns to a confidential agent of the police.
Col. Wilbert Parilla, Director of the Iloilo City Police Office, said the suspect may have been already desperate that he had to sell the items.
“Napilitan na siya, it is maybe dahil kapos na siya sa pera and then binebenta niya sa isang confidential agent,” he said.
The suspect is behind bars at the Oton Municipal Police Station and is facing fresh charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives. Earlier, charges were filed against him for robbery with homicide.
The victim’s son is thankful for the arrest but said it might be difficult to forgive the suspect.
“Sino ang magpapatawad sa ginawa niya? Ang pinakamasakit sa lahat, sinaktan pa niya ang matanda, kay Nanay, na sana hindi na niya sinaktan,” said the son, John Inayan.
The suspect did not issue a statement to GMA Regional TV Ratsada Balita but he reportedly told the police that someone instructed him to kill the victim.
The police will validate this information.
“Kailangan muna nating i-validate ang sinasabi niya and then in the proper forum so that it can be used legally,” Parilla said.
