Several mini-bus units and houses were submerged in floodwaters after heavy rains hit Barangay Katangawan, General Santos City at past 12 midnight on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

These vehicles were not moved immediately due to the sudden surge of water, which reportedly came from overflowing irrigation canals.

The flooding was reportedly caused by heavy rains in the upland areas.

However, the floodwaters subsided after a few hours.

Upon inspection, the vehicles affected were found filled with mud and other debris carried by the flood.

According to the operator of the mini-buses, three of the units are not yet fit for operation due to concerns that their engines may have been damaged.

“Para dili madaot ang makina tanggalon ang air cleaner, drain ang iyang diesel sa tangke para dili musuyop og tubig kay ang  air cleaner napuno man gud og tubig,” mini-bus operator, Miguelito Carmona, said.

However, 10 other units are still in good condition and fit for operation.

Meanwhile, several houses in the area were also inundated by floodwaters.

Residents are now cleaning their homes due to the mud left behind by the flood.

“Tingala mi uy kusug na kaayo ang tubig, nangaanod na ba (gapnod) padulong sa ubos. First time na matingala nga walay ulan,” a resident affected, Cristine Sayloon, said.

Authorities continue to assess the flooded areas.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather was caused by isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms affecting the city.

“Meron man tayong na-monitor na low pressure area sa loob ng PAR , malayo man siya, wala siyang direktang epekto. Ibig sabihin, walang kinalaman yung low pressure area ngayong araw, at yung nagsimula kahapon. Yung ano man ang nagpaulan, isolated rainshowers and thunderstorm,” DOST-PAGASA GenSan-Sarangani Chief Meteorologist, Engr. Jaymar Artigas, said.
