The Visayas Grid will be on yellow alert for three hours, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

NGCP said the available capacity is 2,599MW while the peak demand is 2,411MW.

NGCP said the factor that contributed to the yellow alert declaration is the unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and PEDC 3.

Several power plants have been on forced outage with one as far back as 2021:

  • 2 plants in July 2026
  • 8 plants since June 2026
  • 7 plants since May 2026
  • 1 plant since March 2026
  • 3 plants since 2025
  • 2 plants since 2024
  • 2 plants since 2023
  • 1 plant since 2021

Meanwhile, 17 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 935.3MW unavailable to the grid, NGCP said.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
