The family of Chris Lorenz Fabian, one of the three students killed in the Tacloban school shooting, is asking President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to step in so that justice can served to the victims of the tragic incident.
“Hustisya po, hustisya Mr. President… sana naman po tumulong kayo para po sa hustisya sa mga bata… sana mabigyan nyo ng pansin kasi kayo ang nasa taas,” said Erbea Fabian, the mother of Chris Lorenz.
Chris Lorenz was laid to rest on June 30, 2026, eight days after the shooting morning on June 22. He was 15 years old.
Erbea said they would also want the 14-year-old suspect charged but if he is spared from criminal liability as provided by law, his parents must be answerable.
“Magulang po ang dapat managot kung hindi ang 14 year old dahil hindi po biro ang ginawa niya… nakapatay po siya ng tatlo, nakadisgrasya ng maraming estudyante… sana po makipag-cooperate kayo mabigyan ng hustisya mga anak namin,” Erbea said.
The family of another student who died, Ayessa Nicole Dazo, also wants the 14-year-old suspect charged.
So far, only the 15-year-old suspect has been charged before the prosecutor’s office.
Jose Rizalino Ortega of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines said Chris Lorenz’ death should serve as an inspiration to the Filipino youth.
Many consider the boy a hero because he did not hesitate to stand against the door so that the suspects could not enter the classroom.
The Boy Scouts of the Philippines gave Chris Lorenz another tribute during his funeral.
“His death, however devastating, will be in the annals of the Boy Scout movement as an inspiration not to die but to adopt the values the scouting movement. May his death continue to inspire the filipino youth,” Ortega said.
Fr. Mark Ivo Velasquez, priest of the parish where Chris Lorenz’ family belongs, said the boy’s death should serve a lesson that communities must be safe places for the young.
“His death, though cruel, violent, senseless, worthy of condemnation, should lead us to see and work for justice and that it will never happen again. We have to make our communities, families places where the young can grow, where we will all be safe,” he said.
