President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. led the inauguration of the Light Craft Landing Station at the Benoni Port in Mahinog, Camiguin on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Marcos also inspected the Benoni Port Operations Building, which has been expanded and equipped with modern facilities to provide more comfort and convenience for passengers.

Meanwhile, the Light Craft Landing Station can accommodate more sea vessels, including yachts, which are expected to boost leisure activities and marine tourism on the island.

Marcos said these projects are the government’s response to the increasing number of tourists visiting the island.

The President also inspected the quality of the projects.

“This serves as a vital link to people, goods, services and therefore opportunities moving that will enable families to return home, return to their businesses, to transport their products and for fishermen to bring their catch to the market and tourist to enjoy this destination,” Marcos said.

Among the objectives of the new facility is to eliminate the operations of fixers to prevent tourists from becoming victims of fraudulent activities.

“It will also improve port operations and that way we will help eliminate opportunities for bad actors pati smuggling mababawasan dahil yung mga maliliit na mga barko ay dito na lang silo mag landing,” Marcos added.

According to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Camiguin, the new facility will help them prepare for emergency situations, such as passengers being stranded due to trip cancellations caused by bad weather conditions.

PPA is also set to implement a system to ensure more efficient operations at the Light Craft Landing Station, which is the first facility of its kind in the country under the agency’s management.

“Ang indirect po na impact niyan ay dahil sa turismo diba multiplier effect po tayo sa turismo kung meron po tayong turista na gagamit ng pasilidad andyan ang pangangailangan ng transport services, catering at iba pang ancillary services natin sa port,” PPA Misamis Oriental/Camiguin Port Manager, Fernando Mapalo Jr., said.
