The family of the eight-year-old girl who died a few days after she was allegedly struck on the head with a notebook during a fight inside a public school in Davao City has declined to have the body undergo an autopsy.

The victim’s mother said they are not blaming anyone for what happened.

“Sa ngayon ma'am, hindi ko pa masasabi ma'am dahil wala naman talaga akong isinisisi dahil mga bata pa naman din kasi ma'am. Wala akong isinisisi kahit kanino, wala,” the mother said.

Based on initial investigation, the victim was allegedly hit several times in the head with a notebook by a male classmate inside the school on July 17, 2026.

Police are verifying reports that the victim was also allegedly kicked, punched, and elbowed.

The victim was brought to a traditional healer (manghihilot) before being taken to a hospital on July 21, where she died later.

Based on medical findings, the victim died from brain failure and traumatic brain injury.

“Ang ating instruksyon sa station commander is to conduct in-depth investigation to determine 'yong punot dulo nitong pagkasawi ng isang estudyante at matukoy natin kung sino ang naging salarin bago naganap itong insidente na ito,” Davao City Police office (DCPO) Director, Col. Peter Madria, said.

The school principal personally delivered letters from the victim’s classmates to the mother at their home in Samal Island, Davao del Norte, where the child’s wake is being held.

The mother broke down in tears while reading the letters.

“Sa mga kaklase ni Jaira, salamat sa inyong pagmamahal kay Jaira. Hindi ko matanggap...hindi na ninyo makikita si Jaira, hindi na siya makakabalik sa paaralan. Salamat sa inyong mga mensahe kay Jaira,” the mother said.

The school principal also gave assistance to the victim’s family and extended their condolences.

The school is planning to install CCTV cameras in every classroom, but they are still looking for funds.

“Plano ng paaralan na maglagay ng CCTV sa bawat silid-aralan. Mayroon na kaming CCTV sa paligid para kung may mangyari, makikita agad at mairerebyu agad. Kung may CCTV, siguro maiimpormahan ang mga bata na may CCTV, siguro mag-iingat sila dahil alam nilang makikita kung may gagawin sila,” school principal, Friendee Nunez, said.

With each passing day, the victim’s parents continue to grieve the loss of their child, who had dreamed of becoming a teacher.

“Pangarap niya na mag-viral siya sa TikTok, pero iba ang pagkaka-viral niya ngayon ma'am. Wala na siya, pumanaw na siya sa amin,” the mother said.
