A 52-year-old truck driver died after getting electrocuted while trying to move low-hanging power lines out of the path of his truck in Barangay Bateng, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
Police said the man, identified as Jesus Tibudan, was on his way to San Fabian with his son to haul sand when they encountered several low-hanging cables on the road.
He decided to secure the cables so the truck could pass safely.
"Gusto ni Papa, siya ang magtali kasi alam daw niya ang gagawin niya," Jeric said.
The family said the victim had already tied up several low-hanging cables. He was about to secure what was believed to be the last one when he got electrocuted.
People nearby who saw what happened could only scream in disbelief.
His son said the incident has left the family devastated.
"Masakit sa kalooban ko ang nangyari sa tatay ko," he said.
Mangaldan police said there were no signs of foul play and that the incident appeared to be an accident.
Mangaldan Police Chief PLTCOL. Perlito Tuayon said the victim accidentally came into contact with a live electrical wire.
"Aksidente po ang nangyari at ito naman ay pinapatunayan ng kaniyang anak. Live wire pala ang nahawakan nito," he said.
The victim's family is now in talks with his employer regarding possible financial assistance.
As of posting, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon said it is seeking a statement from the management of CENPELCO regarding the reported low-hanging power lines in the area.
