Even if online and modular learning remain in place for schools in General Santos City, authorities have deployed personnel to secure campuses following a shooting threat in the last week of July 2026.
As of this writing, authorities have yet to trace and arrest the source of the threat.

As of this writing, face-to-face classes in schools in the city remain suspended since the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck neighboring Sarangani on June 8.
“Nagpa-full deployment ta sa mga eskwelahan , ginabutangan nato og pulis kauban ang barangay kauban ang other force multiplier and of course mga school nga naay security, mao na sila atung katambayayong sa pag-secure sa different schools,” said Col. Ariel Alcala, OIC Director of the General Santos City Police.
On Monday, August 3, 2026, Alcala led the city police in checking the so-called “vulnerable spots” of the General Santos City SPED Integrated School in Barangay San Isidro, one of the schools targeted purportedly by the threat.
Vulnerable spots are areas that unscrupulous individuals may gain access to or send contraband easily into campus.
Alcala said they have recommended to the school to heighten security in these spots in campus.
“Naa tay nakita nga mura’g vulnerable nga area mao nang ato’ng gisugyot ang school authorities nga kung pwede pakusgan ang seguridad diha nga portion sa school kay, siyempre, naay mag-over the bakod ba o posible diha ang contraband, mga deadly weapon, masulud,” Alcala said.
Meanwhile, in Cagayan de Oro City, the barangay where the Lapasan National High School is located recommended that the school suspend its in-person classes on August 3, 2026 also due to a security threat.
"The safety of learners and school personnel must remain the highest priority. Until the threat has been fully assessed and appropriate security measures have been implemented by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other concerned agencies, it is prudent to adopt preventive measures to avert any possible harm," reads the memorandum Barangay Captain Julito Ogsimer sent to the principal of the high school.
