Authorities have arrested a man for allegedly selling firearms illegally in Barangay Salibo, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the suspect was allegedly caught delivering and selling two M4A1 carbines without the necessary permits and licenses authorizing him to own, possess, and trade the items.

CIDG said the guns seized are also not registered.

Based on investigation, the suspect was allegedly involved in gunrunning activities in the province.

“The accomplishment underscores the Unit’s commitment to preventing crimes by removing from circulation and use the very instruments of killing and violence,” CIDG said.

CIDG added that the operation strengthened the enforcement of election gun ban by disrupting the illegal firearms supply and ensuring public safety ahead of the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.

“It is highly relevant to local security and the upcoming Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections. The CIDG assures the public of its steadfast resolve in confiscating all unlicensed firearms; and unyielding fight against gunrunners and gun-for-hire criminals across the country,” CIDG added.
