State weather bureau PAGASA warned the public that the intense heat being experienced could continue in the coming weeks.

Several local government units in Misamis Oriental suspended classes at all levels on August 13 to 14, 2026, due to the high heat index.

On Thursday, the heat index reportedly reached 46 degrees Celsius in Caraga and Surigao City while Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental recorded 41 degrees Celsius.

“Pag sinabing heat index iba po sya sa tinatawag na maximum temperature ang heat index po ay yung mismong na fi-feel ng katawan natin na init,” PAGASA Weather Specialist 1, Carl Justine Navarro, said.

PAGASA said the hot weather is expected to continue over the coming weeks, with the heat index possibly reaching dangerous levels.

This could result in heat cramps and heat stroke.

PAGASA advised the public to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., stay hydrated, and wear comfortable clothing.

“Ang possible lang mag pa ulan sa atin ngayon kung magkakaroon tayo ng ITCZ which is malabo pong mangyari and yung southwest monsoon ang pinaka naapektohan niya is ang part lang ng Luzon,” Navarro added.
