A 26-year-old woman who was crossing the road died after she was hit and run over by a trailer truck in Barangay 22, Cagayan de Oro City morning on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the victim was crossing the road on her way to the university where she worked as a guidance counselor when she was hit and run over by the truck.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

“Iyang lawas gyud ang nalatayan so dili pud ta kaingon sa findings sa doctor kay wala pa man na-indicate sa report sa karon,” TEU-COCPO Deputy Chief, Capt. Joshua Abrasaldo, said.

According to the owner of the house rented by the victim, she would usually walk to work every morning.

“Ang atbang pud dili pud sila kastorya kung unsay nahitabo. Kalit ra kayo ba kay ang mga sakyanan ga-cross baya na nasalipdan,” house owner, Felix Paye, said.

The truck driver was taken into police custody and may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

COCPO reminded pedestrians to exercise extra caution when crossing near large trucks, particularly because they may be in the driver’s blind spot.

“Wala mabantayi sa drayber sa truck ang pagtabok sa pedestrian so meaning naa sa blindspot most likely kita nga manabok kung diri ta manabok sa dakong truck make sure nga dili mo magdugay sa pagtabok otherwise magkaway mo sa ilang atubangan para mabantayan mo dili mo maabantehan,” Abrasaldo added.
