A man was rescued after climbing an electric post in Barangay Buhangin Proper, Davao City morning on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to the barangay officials, residents in the area were alarmed at around 3 a.m. when the man was seen jumping from one rooftop to another before climbing the electric post.

“Matod pa, didto nga nangayo siya og bugas and then naa pud nag-ingon nga miaksyon daw og sulod sa balay and then siyempre gigukod nila kay naalaan og kawatan. Gigukod daw siya og tao, pulis unya nangayo siya og tabang,” Barangay Chairman Francisco Gamad said.

Electricity in the area was also shut off during the incident.

Residents spotted him and called for a rescue operation.

Rescuers immediately prepared their safety equipment when they responded and cleared the area to ensure the man’s safe rescue.

Later, rescuers approached the man using a bucket to reach and rescue him. However, the man jumped and fell onto the road.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the man, who has a family, is not a resident of the area and was reportedly there to apply for a job. However, he was said to be experiencing some problems.

“Mihangyo sa iya nga unsa man iyang problema, adto ta sa barangay. Gibuhat gyud nato ang tanan but unfortunately, wa pud ta kabalo unsa iyang state of mind,” Gamad added.

Authorities are still trying to locate and contact his family.

According to a psychologist, people experiencing emotional or mental distress need adequate support.

“Naa koy impression nga it’s a psychotic episode, when you say psychotic episode, naa na siyay detachment from reality, the way siya maghunahuna dili na grounded sa kung unsay rational, o unsay reasonable. If ang tao naa’y kaagi, it’s really good that you find someone you can share your emotions to and will respect your emotions,” LSL Counseling & Testing Center Psychological Services Head, Bonnie Junell Abanid, said.
