Finalists for the LSA were selected through a rigorous screening process. Entries were monitored and collated by a third party media intelligence firm, Media Meter.

The entries were then reviewed and graded by a distinguished panel of screeners such as acclaimed screenwriter Dr. Clodualdo del Mundo, Palanca winners Dr. Dinah Roma and Dr. Genevieve Asenjo, and Dr. Jose Victor Torres.

Once the scores were tabulated, finalists were determined and the highest-scoring entries were turned over to the LSA Board of Judges.

Founded in 2004, the LSA is an annual recognition program for outstanding media coverage of Filipino youth and education issues by professional and campus journalists. Professional journalists who are winners of the LSA will receive a sculpture designed and crafted by renowned artist Daniel dela Cruz.

Sponsored by De La Salle University, the campaign aims to generate awareness among various sectors, from government and non-government organizations to private companies and individuals, on critical issues confronting the education sector.

This endeavor encourages proactive initiatives toward the development of the country's educational system.
