Google+ brand pages outpace Twitter, but still behind Facebook

Brand pages on Google’s social network Google+ are growing faster than those on micro-blogging service Twitter —but still not as fast as social networking king Facebook, a social marketing site said.

Socialbakers.com said Google+ has been bringing in “much faster” growth than Twitter, with the difference becoming clear in February after a relatively tight race in January.

“January, it was close, but in February, its clear that Google+ brands are growing several times faster. Bottom line, our Google+ statistics show that Google+ is growing faster than brands on Twitter,” it said.

It added Google+ might start growing faster in the Media category, a very critical space for Twitter.

A separate article on The Next Web noted Google+ introduced brand pages in November, while Twitter made the move in an official manner in December.

Twitter has been home to brands far longer than Google+, it added.

Reasons behind the surge

The Next Web noted an apparent surge in growth on Google+ in December, according to a report published a few days ago by BrightEdge Social Share.

It said there are certain factors that always need to be taken into account when looking at these figures.

“The nature of Google+ is far more in line with what a brand may expect when it comes to interacting with users, and so should the real comparison here be with Facebook? If that’s the case, taking a look at Socialbakers’ figures, there really is no comparison. According to the BrightEdge report, ‘Google+ still has less than 1/100th the number of total consumers interacting with the top 100 brands that Facebook has,’” it said.

It added that as far as engagement is concerned, the numbers follow the same trend, with interaction with brands on Facebook far exceeding anything seen on their Google+ counterparts. — TJD, GMA News
