Tarps describing PHL as 'province of China' spotted in QC, Makati

On the second anniversary of the Philippines' victory over China in connection with the South China Sea issue, tarpaulins describing the country as a "province of China" were spotted in several roads in Metro Manila.

YouScooper Nea Santiago said she was on her way to school via FX at 6:42 a.m. when she and other passengers noticed the red tarpaulin near D. Tuazon in Quezon City.

Rex Tugay, another YouScooper, also took a photo of the tarpaulin.

A similar tarpaulin was also seen hanging at the footbridge along C5-Kalayan in East Rembo, Makati City.

It was not immediately known who or what group placed the tarpaulins.

Two years ago on the same day, the Philippines had a favorable ruling from The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration invalidating China's massive claims over South China Sea.

The ruling was handed down just days after President Rodrigo Duterte assumed the presidency.

Critics, however, have accused Duterte of not enforcing the ruling and of kowtowing to China. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
