Winners of the Ateneo Art Awards 2017 announced

At its news space Arete on Sunday October 1, winners of the Ateneo Art Awards 2017 have been announced. The Jury selected three from a shortlist of 12.

Cian Dayrit for his works in "Exposition", Gale Encarnacion for her thesis exhibition "Blow Me", and Constantino Zicarelli for his solo show "Prelude to a Billion Years" won the Fernando Zobel Prizes for Visual Art.

All three received a residency grant: Cian at La Trobe Art Insitute in Australia, Gale at Artesan Gallery + Studio in Singapore, and Costantino Zicarelli at Liverpool Hope University in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, two winners were selected for the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism. Arianna Mercado, for her Dalena’s Curtain Call, was accorded the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize - The Philippine Star award, which includes a bimonthly column in Arts & Culture section of the newspaper for a year.

Josephine V. Roque won the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize - ArtAsiaPacific Magazine prize for her Transits of Meaning. She will be contributing a total of six articles to ArtAsiaPacific Magazine for one year as well.

The Ateneo Art Awards 2017 exhibition is on view until December 2 at the Ateneo Art Gallery in Arete, inside the Loyala Campus grounds. — LA, GMA News
