Amid bashing, Mariel De Leon affirms her patriotic stance, wishes Asec. Uson luck

Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel De Leon is carrying herself with grace as a number of people continue to harshly disapprove of her choice to be political on Twitter.

De Leon on Thursday assured her followers that she is also against divisiveness.

"Like all Filipinos, I love my country and I hope for a better Philippines. With or without a crown, I will continue to show my love for the nation by discussing issues that affect us," she declared.

The beauty queen clarified that she did not intend for her statements to be offensive and offered an apology. She also extended well-wishes for Asec. Mocha Uson.

"Moving forward, I will use this title as a platform to promote unity for the country," De Leon concluded.
