Theater couple Nyoy Volante and Mikkie Bradshaw say working together is good for their marriage

Mr. and Mrs. Volante will likely not be spending Valentine’s Day together.

As one of the most popular performers in Manila, Valentine’s Day is Nyoy’s busiest day, and his wife, theater actress Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, shares that Nyoy is pretty much always fully booked on February 14. “Which is totally fine,” she smiles, shrugging off the cheesy romantic V Day must-do’s.

The husband and wife tandem will be spending a lot of time together for the rerun of the largely successful "Kinky Boots", happening from March 2-18.

The couple will be sharing the stage, as Nyoy will be reprising the starring role of drag queen Lola, while Mikkie will taking over the role of Lauren from Yanah Laurel, who had to give up the restaging due to scheduling conflicts.

This isn’t the first time Nyoy and Mikkie will be working together. In fact, it was work in the theater and music industry that brought them together romantically.

How beautiful naman my wife o! ??

The couple were last seen together onstage as a failed couple in "Jersey Boys", where Mikkie proudly teases, “I got to divorce him every night.”

The "Kinky Boots" production is nothing new to Mikkie. She took being a supportive wife a notch higher by not only cheering on her husband in drag in last year's run, but by personally seeing to Lola’s glitter and sparkles as his makeup artist.

Seeing her husband in full makeup and killer heels is nothing to new to her – in fact, she couldn’t be more thrilled! “He’s my Caitlyn Jenner," Mikkie laughs. "I think I was more in love with him than ever when I saw him in drag! You want a man to take care of you and be a strong, masculine figure, but at the same time, you kind of want a gay best friend. I have that all in one package.”

This humor has characterized the couple on and off the stage, making them absolute #marriagegoals. Nyoy and Mikkie will be married for two years this February. They have an 8-year-old daughter, Sophie — equally talented in the theater world, as she was seen onstage in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

Nyoy and Mikkie are not worried about the professional and personal mixing for "Kinky Boots". Mikkie says, “The most stressful thing in our life is when we’re not working together.”

Since Nyoy and Mikkie both have very hectic careers and schedules, there’s often extra effort in finding ways to spend time together. “Our lives are in sync when we’re in a production together. That’s when we’re most able to breathe. Performing together, that’s the core of our relationship.” — LA, GMA News

Kinky Boots will run from March 2-18 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Tower, Makati. Tickets start at P2,000. Tickets
