Madrid Fusion Manila 2018 could still happen —Tourism Promotions Board

After earlier talk of a cancellation, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) on Wednesday opened the doors to having the Madrid Fusion Manila this year.

Local foodies were dismayed when it was initially announced that the highly-anticipated food event was going to be pushed until next year with international chefs and exhibitors being available.

Without giving full assurance, TPB chief operating officer Cesar Montano issued a statement saying the board was assessing the possibility of staging the fourth edition of the Spanish food fest later in 2018.

The glimmer of hope came "in light of new developments" and "changes in logistical requirements" which the board said looked good for key events like the International Gastronomy Congress and the Fusion Manila International Gastronomy Expo.

Montano said the board "continues to recognize the impact of Madrid Fusion Manila in the promotion of our country as a focal point of gastronomic interest worldwide." —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
