The quest to slow down skin aging

“It’s not how old you are, it’s how you are old,” goes the quote, and in my mid-30s, I am guilty of making sure I “old” well. Call it vanity, self-preservation or mere experimentation, but when I hit 35, the quest for the fountain of youth began.

My dermatologists say I fall under the preventive phase: in your 30s, the skin begins to show signs of aging caused by stress, hormonal swings, medications and metabolism. It is a good age to start taking skin matters seriously and boosting one’s regimen from the basic cleanse-tone-moisturize.

With this is mind, I was quick to scour the latest anti-aging methods—but with one non-negotiable factor: it had to be painless. I believe that pain induces stress, which may expedite my aging instead of slow it.

Here are two discoveries which from my own experience are effective, fast and pain-free.

Note: As always, consult your doctor before undergoing any treatment.

Collagen is the main structural protein naturally found in our bodies, and Collagen 360 Elixir is a drinkable nutricosmetic that is specifically designed to help in the recovery of skin density and in preventing its depletion.

The Collagen 360 Elixir is a dermatologist-dispensed product and is not available on store shelves.

Collagen 360 Elixir comes in six 30ml bottles. Each bottle is to be consumed once a day for six consecutive days and the same cycle is to be repeated for three months. One can take the contents in a single shot, or mix it with any beverage or fruit slices.

Author’s testimony: It smells and looks like patis. The 30ml content was too much to take with one shot and so I had to divide it into two servings. If you have a weak gag reflex, the Collagen 360 Elixir might trigger it. It is better chilled and taking a slice of fruit or candy right after the shot manages the aftertaste.

After finishing six bottles, my skin does feel softer and as noticed by friends, I seem to have a glow. I do not feel any internal change or rejuvenation of sort, but since I have two more months to complete the plan, the product’s full effect might be realized by then. Right now, I am pleased with the instant but minimal development and I do plan to continue the intake.

Cleartight

Photos provided by KeeLee Tan MD of Rejuvenate Clinic in Perth, Australia claim Cleartight's effects

Cleartight is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative treatment alternative to traditional surgical face lifts and skin resurfacing procedures without pain or downtime. This laser treatment claims to improve fine lines and wrinkles and lighten skin discoloration such as age spots. It is gentle enough to treat areas that are typically too sensitive for other lasers, such as the skin around the eyes, forehead, mouth, neck and hands.

Cleartight uses a hand-piece, which enables it to treat hard-to-reach areas. After the area to be treated is cleansed, the patient is asked to wear protective goggles, then the Cleartight hand-piece is passed over the skin. It is advised that a three- to six-week session be accomplished to appreciate results.

Author’s testimony: As an avid fan of various laser products, from hair removal to treating scars and cellulite, I was surprised that Cleartight did not require gel or topical anesthesia be administered before treatment.

The doctor insisted on doing just the right part of my face first because, she said, the effect would be instantly visible. The treatment took around ten minutes, after which I was immediately directed to a mirror to compare the treated area with my untreated left side. Surprisingly, it  did look lifted, tighter and clearer. The entire procedure lasted for 20 minutes without discomfort, redness or pain.

Indeed it is effective, instant and painless. However, having a small face with no skin sagging yet, Cleartight made me look extra thin. Thus, I was advised to do the procedure just once a month for prevention instead of the full process. — BM, GMA News
