Catriona Gray speaks up as Bea Santiago, Maggie Wilson feud with her fans over ‘body-shaming’


There's friction again between Binibining Pilipinas titlists and fans of newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray.

This time around, Catriona's fans took issue with comments made by Binibining Pilipinas World 2007 Maggie Wilson on Facebook during the coronation night, a screencap of which has been shared online.

"Huh, best in swimsuit? Paano? I mean, pretty face but definitely not the best body out there," Maggie wrote.

Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago on her own Facebook account seconded this with "Napa nganga tawa kami ni Maggie."

The remarks did not sit well with fans and soon enough, Maggie was pressed to issue a statement. Via her IG stories, Maggie said that she stands by her opinion and tagged Catriona in a screencap of the hateful comments.

On Thursday, Catriona posted a series of messages on her own Instagram account.

The beauty queen once more warned against being overly sensitive and the consequences of retaliating with negativity. Without addressing Maggie directly, Catriona additionally declared that she has no control over what her fans want to say.

"Let's just be happy! I'm elated and over the moon to be our new Ms Universe Philippines! We should be celebrating the new queens! More love, more positivity," she said.

 


Bea had taken to Twitter during the night of pageant and was tagging the official Binibining Page to say that "it should not be all about the face."

She additionally tweeted out support for Binibini 14 Samantha Bernardo to win Best in Swimsuit.

Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann on Thursday jumped in to call out body-shaming in general, publishing a post in her IG stories with the hashtag #beautyinallshapesandsizes.
