What to wear in case you bump into your ex, more fashion tips from Heart and stylist Katrina Cruz

Heads turned when Kapuso star Heart Evangelista graced the Stylist's Closet 2018 event held on Thursday, dressed in a fabulous striped dress and a pair of nude heels.

If you've been wondering who's behind all of Heart's flawless outfits we've all been double tapping for on Instagram, it's glam genius Katrina Cruz.

Katrina has been styling Heart for almost 9 years now and GMA News Online sat down with the pair to find out how they've been producing nearly a decade of ensembles wow.

1. On repeating outfits: Go ahead and do it!

Is it okay to repeat outfits you've already worn? Katrina immediately answered: "Definitely."

Heart outright confessed to repeating outfits and said that even Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge does it.

"I mean you buy it, you spend on it, you worked hard for it — why not repeat it? Again, it's how you style also. If you wore it with red lips, you can wear it with blue lips. Kate Middleton does it, so 'wag silang maarte," Heart told GMA News Online.

2. On going monochrome: Know how to do it.

"Monochrome is very beneficial — it makes you look thinner, slimmer, and taller," Katrina said.

She added: "If you're bigger on top, go dark on top and lighter on the bottom. If it's reversed, then reverse!"

3. On your brands: The right fit matters more than who made it.

Heart said what's on the tag won't matter if it doesn't fit you well. You could be wearing an expensive, luxury brand piece and still look drab.

"You can wear actually a jacket that's P500, but the fit [and] the tailoring is nice, [so it looks good]," she said. "Even if you buy from whatever store, sometimes it's really important to have a really good tailor that will actually make [the piece] fit you properly."

4. On how to mix and match: Look at the big picture.

For Heart doing the fashion ritual "mix and match" is still an exercise she has to practice, but with a little help from Kat, she's been getting better at it.

"I used to find it so hard, but Kat really taught me how to [do it right]. It's like exercising your brain to do it, it's nakakatamad. That's why if you buy it now and fit, you see it, you just buy the whole dress and wear it," Heart said.

"Once you [understand] how to do it, you can wear stuff you wore from before, it just changes everyday," Heart said.

One big tip is to buy pieces that work for you. "If you have your wardrobe and every piece works on you, if you put it together, that works for me," she said.

Nowadays, there are no rules and Heart said she's happy that you can work any look with the right attitude.

5. On insecurities: Have 'em, deal with them. We're people!

Heart may always look picture-perfect, but she has her fair share of insecurities. She admitted that she's conscious about her height and avoids wearing shoes with low heels.

"I get that sometimes. It was such a struggle for me to wear lower heels, I used to wear super high heels. I still would, but today I'm wearing these nice [low heel] shoes from Dior," she said.

6. On what to wear when you see your ex: Red.

Attending your reunion soon and your ex will be there? According to Heart, just wear something red. The color says it all.

"Red. It's just so powerful, you don't have to say anything 'di ba? Pero dapat mag-smile. Hindi naman matapang mild lang, to manage the strong presence," she said.

7. Wear what makes you happy.

Katrina said that there aren't a lot of "don'ts" in fashion right now. "It's basically, choose what's right for your body what you're comfortable in," she said.

"I think it's always important for you to step out of your comfort zone," Heart added.

"I remember the last time I did that was when I was in Paris I bought this really nice coat it was fuchsia pink, before I wore it I felt like it was too loud, it was just too much, I couldn't wear it.

"Kat was like, you know sayang wear it. It's important sometimes to listen to your friends when they tell you, try something different. I did, I wore it, I dressed it down a bit, but it really felt good when I wore it. Push yourself to try new things sometimes, because it will actually look good on you," Heart shared.
