Cement firm Lafarge to reopen Cebu plant

Cement company Lafarge Republic Inc. (LRI) will reopen its facility in Danao, Cebu in line with its plans to beef up its production capacity. In its disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company said that the plant will help it meet the increasing needs of the construction industry. “The revamped plant in Danao City is one of several capacity expansion projects being undertaken by LRI to respond to the growing demand for building materials and the order backlog of construction projects of the leading construction companies,” LRI said. It added that with the plant, it will have the capacity to supply an additional one million tons of cement per year beginning in the first half of the year. LRI is targeting to supply another 200 kilotons in Luzon, 650 kilotons in the Visayas and 100 kilotons in Mindanao per year. Other investments aimed at increasing LRI's cement production include the debottlenecking of the mill at its Norzagaray plant in Bulacan. — BM, GMA News
