Meralco rates up in November due to higher generation charges

Customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will have to pay more for electricity this month, following an increase in generation charges.

In an emailed statement on Thursday, Meralco said it will increase rates by P0.3436 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), bringing the overall rate to P9.2836

“The rate increase this month amounts to a PhP68.72 increase in the total bill of a typical residential household consuming 200kWh,” the company said.

According to Meralco, the November rate increase is “mainly due to the P0.1925 per kWh increase in generation charge.” — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/MDM, GMA News
