Cebu Link bags P22.6-B design-and-build contract for Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway
Cebu Link Joint Venture said it has been awarded a design and build contract by a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. for the 8.5-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
Cebu Link was issued the notice of award for the P22.6-billion CCLEX on Nov. 23, 2017, DMCI Holdings Inc. said on Monday
Cebu Link is a joint venture among DMCI Consunji Inc., First Balfour Inc., and Spain-based Acciona Construction S.A.
"We are delighted to be part of this landmark project. We have put together a very experienced team, and are looking forward to working closely together with the customer to deliver a new toll bridge that will benefit both local communities and the Philippines,” Acciona's Ruben Camba said.
As project contractor, Cebu Link is in charge of designing and building a bridge connecting Cebu City to Mactan Island via Cordova. The new bridge is some 7.5 kilometers south of the Mandaue Bridge.
The planned expressway will have two lanes in each direction, and will feature the main navigation span bridge, along with viaduct approach bridges.
It will also include causeway, roadway, and toll facilities to serve at least 40,000 vehicles per day to decongest the traffic in the two existing bridges between Mactan and Cebu.
Cebu Link was contracted by Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways—the toll road arm of Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC)— which bagged the public-private partnership project in 2016.
“We are happy to be given this opportunity to bring to Cebu and share with the Cebuanos and the people in the Visayas in general, our company’s expertise in building and operating world-class highways and bridges to create more opportunities and spur economic growth,” Metro Pacific Tollways President Rodrigo Franco said.
Last year, Franco said the company was planning to borrow as much as P15 billion from local banks to finance the project. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
