Meralco customers to pay more starting February

Households consuming 200 kilowatt hours a month will pay P16.16 more per starting February as the impact of the tax reform law kicks in, according to the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

Citing estimates from power suppliers, Meralco said on Wednesday the generation charge will increase by P0.0113 per kWh due to the excise tax on diesel and coal.

Under the Republic Act No. 10963 or Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion, diesel gets an excise tax of P2.50 per liter—from zero—starting this year.

The excise tax on coal was also raised to P50 per metric ton from P10. —VDS, GMA News
